Viaje de aniversario a Europa: las 5 ciudades más románticas

Pareja de viaje en una ciudad europea - aniversario en Europa

Europe is, perhaps, the most romantic continent in the world: every corner seems designed for falling in love. Listing its romantic cities would be endless, so we made two lists: the 5 best known and 5 you probably didn’t know existed.

But first, a secret we learned designing hundreds of anniversary trips.

The balance that makes a trip truly romantic

A great anniversary trip isn’t 100% romantic all the time — because if everything is romantic, it stops being romantic. The secret is balance: combining very romantic cities with what we call intermediate cities and connection cities, which let you slow the pace and raise the romance. The most romantic moments shine brighter when there’s contrast. And within each country there are more and less romantic cities: the art is mixing them well.

The 5 best-known romantic cities

Paris, France

The city of love by definition. Strolls along the Seine, Montmartre at sunset and a dinner overlooking the illuminated Eiffel Tower.

Venice, Italy

There’s nothing more romantic than getting lost among its canals and alleys, a gondola ride at sunset and a coffee in a hidden square.

Rome, Italy

The Eternal City enchants with its fountains, its golden sunsets among thousand-year-old ruins and its dinners in Trastevere.

The Trevi Fountain in Rome

Santorini, Greece

The sunsets of Oia over the caldera are among the most famous in the world: white houses, blue domes and cave hotels with a private jacuzzi facing the Aegean.

Seville, Spain

The fairytale Alcázar, flamenco, the scent of orange blossoms and warm nights of tapas make Seville an Andalusian romance.

The 5 romantic cities you didn’t know existed

Colmar, France (Alsace)

A fairytale town with colorful half-timbered houses and flower-lined canals — its “La Petite Venise” quarter is pure magic.

Pula, Croatia (Istria)

An almost-intact Roman amphitheater facing the Adriatic, the elegant Istrian coast and Mediterranean sunsets without the crowds.

Paros, Greece (Cyclades)

The serene alternative to Santorini: the fishing village of Naoussa, whitewashed alleys and an unhurried, authentic pace.

Edinburgh, Scotland

A castle on the hill, the medieval Old Town, the mist and dramatic sunsets — a gothic, literary romance.

Matera, Italy

The city carved into the rock: its sassi lit up at night create a surreal, unrepeatable scene, with charming cave hotels.

How to build your anniversary route: focus on one region

The most common mistake is wanting “all of Europe” in one trip. It’s best to focus on one region and combine 2-3 cities with the right balance. Some combinations we love: the British Isles; just Spain and Portugal; just France; just Italy; just Greece and its islands; Prague, Vienna and Budapest (Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary); or Italy with Switzerland. Every route is designed 100% to each couple’s measure.

The best season

Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are the ideal seasons across most of Europe: pleasant weather and fewer crowds. Greece and the south also shine in early summer; Edinburgh and the north, in full summer.

“We combined Paris with Colmar for our anniversary and it was exactly the perfect balance: an iconic city and a fairytale secret. Unforgettable.”
